Former Sports Minister Sunday Dare has earned praise for his significant efforts in revitalizing the National Stadiums in Abuja and Lagos. The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja had suffered neglect for nearly a decade, serving as a grazing ground for livestock. Meanwhile, the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, had long been abandoned, with no attempts at restoration.
Dare Dare, during his tenure, launched the 'Adopt A Pitch' program, drawing in private sector support to revive these national landmarks. Esteemed journalist Dare Esan lauded Dare's accomplishments, saying, "Sunday Dare deserves commendation for leaving both the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja in significantly improved conditions compared to when he assumed the role of Sports Minister in August 2019.
"For the Lagos Stadium, three critical elements – the track, pitch, and digital scoreboard – have been successfully restored through the 'Adopt A Pitch' initiative, fostering a public-private partnership with the Premier Lotto group and its owner, Pa Kensington Adebutu. This facility had been dormant for over two decades.
"The track, now an eight-lane tartan track, has been expertly installed and marked, presenting a truly impressive sight," Esan added."
